Drug Prevention Program

Towson University is committed to educating the 快活视频community about opioid use, misuse, and abuse. All new students must complete the prescription addiction - opioids course through Safe Colleges. 

At Towson University, we recognize that social activities play a role in shaping your academic experience.

As such, we want to ensure that you are:

  • empowered to make well-informed decisions about drugs.
  • aware of your rights and responsibilities as a member of our campus community. 

For this reason it is mandatory for all new students to complete the Prescription Addiction - Opioids course through Safe Colleges. 

Prescription Addiction - Opioids Course

The  education course through Safe Colleges must be completed by all new 快活视频students prior to August 15th, 2023. Students who do not complete the program will have a hold placed on their account and will not be able to register for Spring 2024 Semester. 

Similarly, for students entering Towson University for the spring 2024 semester, the Alcohol and Other Drugs education course must be completed by January 20th, 2024. Students who do not complete the program will have a hold placed on their account and will not be able to register for the Fall 2024 semester.

Frequently Asked Questions

All incoming students are required to receive opioid prevention education through the House Bill 1082 Heroin and Opioid Education and Community Action Act of 2017 (Start Talking Maryland Act). As a part of this requirement, all students must complete the Prescription Addiction-Opioids course. This course is offered through Safe Colleges and is designed to help students understand opioid drugs, signs of an overdose, and how to respond. The course also shares stories from people with substance use disorders and their personal experiences struggling with addiction.

 

Make sure you have internet and audio capabilities on your computer. Follow the  to Safe Colleges and log in with your 快活视频ID. Once logged in, students will see a list of available required courses, including the Prescription Addiction-Opioids course, the Alcohol and Other Drugs course, and the Sexual Violence Prevention Program. These courses takes roughly 30-45 minutes and we suggest completing them in one session. 

All new students at Towson University must take this program regardless if they have completed it at a prior institution.

For the Fall 2023 semester, the program will be made available on June 1st and students will have until August 15, 2023 to complete the program.

For the Spring 2024 semester, the program will be made available on December 1, 2023 and students will have until January 20, 2024 to complete it.

Students who do not complete this program will have a hold placed on their account and will not be able to register for the following academic semester.
