Beginning of the Term Checklist
If you are not consistently updating your site, it鈥檚 a good idea to check your website for accuracy, broken links and stale photos at least twice a year (before each new term). The Digital Strategy team has created the following checklist to help guide this process.
1
Review all pages on your site for accuracy and updates.
- check spelling, grammar and punctuation
- check links and email addresses
- remove out-of-date content, events, news/announcements and documents
- remove redundant information
- ensure all content is optimized for accessibility and mobile devices
2
Review and refresh your department homepage content.
- update news and events weekly or monthly
- regularly update top hero images and website content
- keep website photos current; nothing makes a site more dated than out-of-date photography
3
Review web permissions and roles.
Be aware if:
- a web editor goes on sabbatical or extended leave
- a student employee has graduated (they need to be removed from the CMS)
- a new editor needs to be added to Modern Campus CMS
Contact Digital Strategy, digitalstrategy AT_TOWSON, if you you need to make changes to your website permissions.
4
Review and update faculty and staff information.
- review information about staff, department chair and faculty throughout the site
- review the list of faculty profiles 鈥 when faculty join/leave the department, contact Digital Strategy, digitalstrategy AT_TOWSON to add/remove faculty profiles
- review faculty profile content at least once a year and update with recent presentations, publications
5
Consider attending a refresher training.
Consider taking a refresher course. This is especially important for those editors who do not make regular website updates.
Page Checks
Using Page Checks in the CMS
There are two ways to check your page for spelling errors. You can use the top toolbar 鈥淪pellcheck鈥 tool or the 鈥淧age Check鈥 tool, located above the top tool bar. When using the 鈥淧age Check鈥 tool you will also see additional page checks for broken links and accessibility issues.
Using Page Checks when Publishing
Content owners also have the option to view the page check tools when publishing a page. Everyone makes mistakes; true, but page checks give you the advantage of checking accuracy before you publish.
