Multimedia Studios

Student Multimedia Services offers studio space for the use of ¿ì»îÊÓƵstudents, faculty and staff. We also have multimedia equipment like cameras and microphones for in-studio or off-site use, and we manage the Student Multimedia lab computers. We're located in Cook Library (CK0404C).

Students of all majors and skill levels can use the studio to learn or enhance video and audio production skills!

Reserve space through our . You can also book staff assistance during the session when making your reservation - the multimedia staff can help with using equipment or the studio.

About the studio 

The studio is are stocked with the equipment listed below. It's intended for video recording, rehearsal and group work, and doesn't include a computer. If you're planning to record video or audio, you can bring your own device(s) or book equipment through ORBS to use during your studio sessions.

  • 1 Apple iMac 27-inch computer running both MacOS X and Windows 10 
  • 1 Scarlett 2nd Generation 2-In/4-Out USB Audio Interface 
  • 1 Blue Yeti Pro XLR microphone, shock-mounted on an adjustable boom 
  • 1 Electro-Voice RE-20 Dynamic microphone 
  • 2 KRK Rokit5 audio reference monitors on isolation stand 
  • 1 adjustable desk lamp 
  • black and chromakey green photo/video backgrounds 
  • softfbox lights on floor stands 

Important info for your studio session 

Bring your own storage! Files can be large, bring a flash drive, hard drive or SSD to save your work OTS periodically erases files to optimize computer performance - backup your projects on your own device. 

Extend your session if needed. Bookings are two hours. At the one-hour mark, you can book the next two hours if available. Example: Book 8-10 a.m., at 9 a.m. extend to 10 a.m.-noon, extending the session to four hours.

  • You attest that you are a Towson University student, faculty member or staff member and possess a valid ¿ì»îÊÓƵOneCard identification; 
  • You agree to take all reasonable steps to safeguard the facility and the included equipment from damage and theft, and to adhere to the SMS guidelines for equipment care; 
  • You acknowledge your understanding that if you repeatedly book SMS facilities and then fail to show up without alerting SMS in advance, we may deny your bookings in the future; 
  • You acknowledge your understanding that Towson University, the Office of Technology Services, and Student Multimedia Services are not responsible for file or media loss due to equipment malfunction or misuse; 
  • You acknowledge your understanding that Student Multimedia Services routinely deletes all user content (i.e., image, audio and video files) from studio computers, and that it is your responsibility to transfer your files to your own storage device on a per-use basis.
  • The OTS Tech Support Desk studios are not intended for general computing activities such as web browsing, email processing and word processing, use any other computer in Cook Library for these purposes. 
  • When you make a booking, the Tech Support Desk holds the studio for you. No one else can book it. If you do not report for your booking (or alert us to extenuating circumstances) within 15 minutes after the start time, the booking will automatically cancel, freeing the resource for other users. If you know well in advance that you will not need the resource, please log into ORBS online booking system and cancel the booking. 
  • Studios are not an appropriately private space for clients to work with nude models, and bookings made for this purpose will be canceled. 
  • As described in the university’s Acceptable Use Policy, clients may not use the studios for commercial or profit-making purposes without written authorization from the university.
When you make a booking, you designate a pick-up/collection/use time: For non-circulating resources (e.g., studios, scanners, etc.), if you have not reported to the Tech Support Desk within 20 minutes of your scheduled collection time, your booking will automatically cancel.
