快活视频alumnus and current computer and information sciences faculty member Jal Irani 鈥�15 has been named as one of Technical.ly鈥檚 ReaList Engineers, 21 pioneering engineers in the Baltimore area.

Irani co-founded Flave鈥攁 mobile app that incentivizes foodies to eat local instead of at chain restaurants, through gamification and personalized friend recommendations.

Technical.ly praised Irani, also a , for leading development of Flave鈥檚 mobile app. Technical.ly further extolled the organization鈥檚 presence and promotion of local businesses during the pandemic.

鈥淚t鈥檚 a massive honor to be considered one of the 21 most influential engineers in Baltimore for 2021,鈥� Irani says. 鈥淗aving a positive impact on the community is the core thesis of my company, so being recognized for this is an affirmation that our team is pushing in the right direction.鈥�

was a member of the 2020 cohort of Towson University鈥檚 StarTUp Accelerator program. Irani returned with Flave co-founder Derek Battle as mentors for the 2021 cohort.

Irani and Flave were chosen late last year to be a partner in the new UpSurge Baltimore, which launched with the intention to find, support, scale and celebrate high-impact startups while also developing strategies to attract new companies, talent and capital.
