The guitar program at Towson University is one of the oldest collegiate guitar programs in the country, and is a premiere program in the region and nationally. We pride ourselves on being an affordable undergraduate music program, but one that is also respected for the highest level instruction and student performance opportunities 鈥 there is no sacrifice in quality. In this program, you will receive weekly lessons focusing on musicianship, technique, and sight reading. Students also participate in a weekly performance/master class, perform in guitar ensembles every semester, and take courses in Guitar History and Pedagogy. While the guitar performance degree is our most 鈥減erformance intensive鈥 degree, 快活视频also offers Music Education, Bachelor of Science in Music, and Music Minor degrees, all with classical guitar as the main instrument.
The Guitar Program at Towson has a very close relationship with The Baltimore Classical
Guitar Society, one of the most successful guitar societies in the world. Towson University
hosts two of the four premiere BCGS concerts every season, with one of those artists
presenting a master class exclusively to 快活视频students. These are the top classical
guitarists in the world. Recent guest artists include David Russell, Manuel Barrueco,
Sharon Isbin, The Assad Duo, Alvaro Pierri, and the Los Angeles Guitar Quartet, to
name but a few.
The success of our guitar students and alumni are a testament to our rigorous and
comprehensive curriculum. Our students are regularly accepted with scholarship to
top level graduate programs, such as the San Francisco Conservatory, Cleveland Institute
of Music, Roosevelt University, Peabody Conservatory, Ithaca College, Lamont School
of Music-University of Denver, Boston Conservatory, Manhattan School of Music, etc.
They are also active performers in all genres of music in the region, music educators
in public and private K-12 schools, and collegiate professors.
We are proud of all of our student musicians as they work to pursue their passion. I look forward to you joining us!
Towson鈥檚 program has a long history of success in preparing young artists for the next step in their musical careers. A separate application and performance audition are required for admission to the concentration.
