Biography

Michael Harrington is a Lecturer and Director of Debate in the Department of Communication Studies. He specializes in advocacy, persuasion, and social protest, with an emphasis on Black resistance, Hip-Hop, and sonic argumentation. His most recent research, titled 鈥淨uareosonics: Beyond Respectable Sonics in Hip-Hop/Rap,鈥 utilizes a critical rhetorical and interpersonal analysis to study the contours of Quare sounds as resistance to anti-Blackness and heteronormativity. His teaching focuses on helping students find their voice to cultivate new ideas, performances, theories, and/or political embodiment. He was also involved in speech and debate where he started as college novice and quickly progressed to become a top 16 debater at the National Debate Tournament his senior year. Now, he enjoys coaching debaters on all levels to help them become confident in their argumentation styles.
