Carna Hogan
Towson University is my second home,鈥 says accounting major, Carna Hogan. 鈥淭he Towson University campus is the perfect size. You recognize students from classes and the residence hall, yet still see new faces every day.鈥
Growing up in the idyllic small town of Easton, Maryland, Carna Hogan was ready to make a change when she graduated from high school, but she was not willing to move too far away. 鈥淭owson University is my second home,鈥 she says. 鈥淭he Towson University campus is the perfect size. You recognize students from classes and the residence hall, yet still see new faces every day.鈥
With enough advanced placement courses to graduate a semester early with her bachelor鈥檚 degree, Hogan opted for Towson University鈥檚 five-year program. 鈥淚 am still able to graduate early with a master鈥檚 degree and be ready to take the CPA exam right away,鈥 explains Hogan. 鈥淭hat鈥檚 a big benefit for accounting firms.鈥
Hogan鈥檚 love of numbers, spreadsheets, charts and all things organizational made her a natural accounting major. At Towson University, she has attended numerous open houses hosted by accounting firms throughout the area and even shadowed at the Columbia, Maryland-based Biegel Waller accounting firm. 鈥淚鈥檝e seen the firms, met some partners, and learned even more about the accounting business,鈥 she explains. Hogan is hoping her summer experiences at an Eastern Shore accounting firm will translate into a full-time job on 鈥渢he Western shore of Maryland.鈥
Throughout her academic career, Hogan has appreciated the constant contact with accounting department faculty and staff. 鈥淭hey send emails and reminders, and they are always there to help you make connections,鈥 says Hogan, who serves as treasurer for Phi Sigma Pi National Honor Society and currently works in financial services for the Office of Student Services advising students about tax options and required tax paperwork. 鈥淚 cannot picture myself anywhere else but TU. I visited other campuses, but Towson University was for me.鈥
